About Us
Welcome to JRVA Microgreens
My name is Jenine Pendlebury
My farm, James River Valley Acreage, is a small direct to community farm that offers home deliveries of freshly GROWN TO ORDER Microgreens.
I started a Greenhouse after moving here to the James River area 5 years ago. Since then, I have expanded my growing knowledge greatly.
One day I came across an article about microgreens and the amazing benefits they have on human health. Find the article here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772566921000057
After losing many loved ones to cancer, and my own health 10 years ago. I am always looking for ways to become healthier. After some intense research, I decided that microgreens were definitely something I wanted to be able offer the world. And at an affordable price!
No need to go to a fancy restaurant to get your microgreens anymore, when you can have them delivered right to your doorstep as often as you like.
Did you know that microgreens contain up to 40% more phytochemicals (beneficial nutrients and components) than their full-grown counterparts?
After learning this, I decided that I was going to specialize in growing 5 varieties of nutrient-dense microgreens… Then it became 8... Now 11!
OUR VARIETIES
Alfalfa
Harvested in 14 days
Micro Alfalfa has a very neutral taste like green iceberg lettuce as both sprout and microgreens. The taste is sweeter the more light you give the plants.
Alfalfa microgreens have become well-known as an outstanding option to lower cholesterol in your body, helping to reduce the risk of several types of cancer, and even helping to inhibit cardiovascular disease. These microgreens have plenty of vitamins, K, C, and A, all of which are essential to good skin. Learn more here...
Arugula
Harvest time 10 days
Arugula is one of the most popular microgreens because of its distinctive spicy, nutty, almost astringent flavor that develops into a more bitter, tangy taste as the plant matures. Arugula microgreens are delicious when raw.
Five times the vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K, and four times the iron as the iceberg lettuce. Arugula microgreens are also a rich source of nutrients, vitamins E, L, lutein, and beta-carotene. Learn more here...
Broccoli
Harvest time 10 days
Micro Broccoli microgreens have a slightly bitter taste, thanks to the sulforaphane in them. However, this makes them a great addition to anything on the sweeter side as it will balance the flavor. A great addition on top of a sandwich, salad, or even your hot meal.
Micro Broccoli has concentrated levels of vitamins A, B, C, and E, the minerals calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and zinc. Furthermore, broccoli microgreen nutrition doesn't stop with vitamins and minerals. They contain high levels of compounds that convert to sulforaphane once consumed. Learn more here...

Micro Pea Greens are best used fresh as an edible garnish or subtle flavoring. The delicate greens can be sprinkled over soups, mixed into salads, selectively placed on main dishes, appetizers, and some desserts to enhance the visual appeal, or used as a fresh flavor over roasted vegetables, potatoes, and pasta. Micro Pea Greens can also be sprinkled on vegetable pizza, layered into sandwiches, used as a bed of greens under grilled meats, or blended into a bright pesto. Pea greens are traditionally used in Asian cuisine and are a favored flavoring in stir-fries. The greens are also popularly dressed in light sauces as a side dish. Micro Pea Greens pair well with cheeses such as goat, feta, parmesan, and pecorino, aromatics such as garlic, ginger, leeks, and shallots, fava beans, asparagus, mushrooms, radishes, citrus, eggs, seafood, and poultry. Micro Pea Greens will generally keep up to 10-14 days when stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
Micro Pea shoots are an excellent source of micronutrients that are often lacking in many people's meals. They'll add a bit of protein and fiber to your diet, as well as vitamins C, A, K, and other vital vitamins and minerals. They're easy to incorporate into your diet to add a nutrient boost.
